WOW launches with Mural Painting.

Our teens in class:
Sixteen youth participated in painting the first mural at Paul’s Upholstery located at 310 E First Street in Clovis. This is a photo of our in-class session where they saw a presentation about Artists of America and the Windows on the World program. The kids were unhappy because they saw this as punishment! But once muralists, Tasha and Megan told them about painting murals, they began to open up like little flowers after a rain shower!
The Mural Blueprint:
We assembled the scaffolding in the late evening and when the sun set, we projected the blueprint on the wall. The kids enjoyed tracing the design with crayons. The entire group of kids showed up, beginning to fulfill their community service obligation. “I’ve never seen my son so excited,” said one mother. “Thank you for doing this for our family!”
For the next two days, each kid was painting their color on the mural. Motorists honked and waved , giving the kids a thumbs up. “I think this may be one time some of these kids received positive attention,” said Mary Kathryn Barris, the WoW program manager
Amelia Sandoval, Tasha Hicks and Megan Graddy (“MonetsVixens”), and Mary Kathryn Barris
